4Phenomenal ice-cream
By Olilu
maybe its the recipe, maybe its the machine. This is a solid bowl of KitchenAid quality that goes in the freezer. I dont have a chest freezer and I couldnt find the dimensions of the bowl so it was really fingers crossed. For those that need to know, the dimensions are 30cm at the widest point (including the handles) by 18cm high. Therefore, provided that you have a drawer that can accommodate this you'll be fine. Mine didnt but i just removed the whole drawer at the bottom and placed it in the drawer space. This worked great. When making ice-cream there are two methods. Cooked and uncooked. Im not really sure what the difference is, the Ben and Jerry's book I bought with it uses uncooked but Gordon Ramsay (who has never let me down) uses cooked.I used Gordon's recipe with some simpler tweaks to make the base and basic vanilla ice cream which was amazing. Happy to share if needed.A word of warning though: when you pour in the custard base make sure that you do it whilst the dasher/beater is turning. Do not stop it. The bowl gets so cold that it freezes the custard immediately and if you stop it you wont get it going again.I was expecting very soft icecream from the reviews however was pleasantly surprised that it came out much more solid. It is easily the same firmness as premium brands ideal serving firmness (ie when you let them sit out before spooning and serving). As with all things KitchenAid, its a long process and a lot of clean up. By the time you've bought all the ingredients and for the hassle I honestly think its cheaper to buy HD, B&J or G&B in the supermarket however the difference is instantly obvious on the first mouthful plus you can experiment with different flavour combinations.

4Good alternative to an ice cream maker
By Newvistas
We researched the reviews of this product on Amazon's sister web site in the States and noted some of the problems people experienced, so we suggest that:No more than the maximum recommended volume of ingredients, as set out in the accompanying User Booklet, be put in the bowl as expansion on freezing has to be allowed for in order to prevent the mixture spilling over the edge of the bowl and working its way up towards and into the mixer drive. Conversely, too little mixture could also cause problems (see comment below). When freezing the bowl you may need to adjust the freezer temperature according to your freezer's performance and your room's temperature. We put ours on the lowest setting as recommended and it was not necessary. That combined with a smaller amount of mixture than normal resulted in the mixture freezing almost immediately bringing the paddle to a halt! Putting the full mixture in all at once will, therefore, help to avoid the almost instant freezing that brought the paddle to a halt. When the bowl is empty use only very cold water to clean it out. Better still allow it to thaw fully at room temperature before putting it into hot water to wash it. Because two different materials have been used in the bowl's construction their speed of expansion and contraction are different. Consequently, any speeding up of the thawing process could be a contributory factor to the longevity of the seal between the two different materials used in the construction of the bowl.Never leave the bowl unattended when in use. The mixer will keep going after the paddle has ground to a halt if you don't turn it off. The paddle could then be damaged where it is attached to the mixer. The paddle has been designed that way so that should a break occur, the cheapest part to be replaced will be the one affected.Having said all that, if the instructions are adhered to, the volume of mixture is not exceeded, and you keep a close eye on proceedings during your initial batches, you will, like us, enjoy tub after tub of your own home made ice cream.

4Ice cream mixer
By Matilda
Works very well but make sure it can fit in your freezer. Be careful when using the recipes as the one I tried over loaded the bowl. Easy to keep clean and easy to use.
