I bought this sharpener as my mother also has it and I was envious of how sharp and precise her knives were. So we're clear, we both have high regarded brands of knives and we both use steels regularly. This sharpener however is well worth the money. It sharpens scalloped knives, serrated knives and regular bladed knives as well. I think that it is better with chef, paring, vegetable knives than say your average carving knife. I would continue to use this with a steel/file but maybe that is out of habit rather than necessity.

This is still going strong and makes even the bluntest knife sharper than when new.Well worth the money as its saved me money in not buying new knives
