Blade is a problem

This slicer performs ok but the blade does not remain sharp for more than four or five months even with low use (We cut four slices of bread per day!) It is impossible to re-sharpen it yourself, indeed when I emailed Swan their reply stated that customers should not attempt to sharpen the blade, it must be re-sharpened professionally. Apart from the likely cost and inconvenience of this I can find no professional blade sharpening service in Meseyside/Manchester. Since the machine is now useless, as it shreds our bread when we use it, we have a very expensive kitchen ornament! I could not therefore advise anyone to buy it.

Excellent product

I've used this several times now and am very happy with its performance. I now get much better value out of joints of meat as the machine can slice as thin or thick as you like right down to the end. It is reasonably easy to clean as long as the blade is removed first.The only reason I dropped a star is because the nut that requires removal first before removing the blade has a very shallow indent which requires either an exceptionally wide screwdriver or a coin. It would have been more effective to have a couple of holes in the nut (similar as on metal/stone grinders) to ensble a more positive removal. Make sure the nut is removed in a clockwise direction and check the position of the washers behind the blade before removal as the instruction book doesn't illustrate the position of these washers if they become detached.

Good machine but dificult/dangerous to clean.

As a kitchen tool this is excellent. What lets it down are the rather poor instructions and the lack of a proper tool for taking the blade off.The instructions say to note the order of pieces that come off when disassembling the blade assembly. It's rather difficult to remember the exact order when juggling with the blade! It would be much better if the order were stated in the instructions.Likewise, you'd have thought they'd provide a tool for opening the blade assembly; it took me quite a search of my workshop to find something that would do the job.In summary, it's a very good machine in use, but to remove the blade for cleaning, as is frequently necessary, it's a hazardous job!
